Oh phone, why do you do this to me?

This is the only photo I can get off my phone right now.

Phone, really?  The most expensive piece of electronic equipment I own, and it only lasts two years. The husband has offered to reset my phone for me, but it's been my sole camera for the last two years, so every photo I've taken is on it.  Not backed up (save for the Yan Yan one).  I must be able to figure out how to get those photos off!

This is why technology and I historically don't get along.  I think it should do something, and it doesn't think it should, and I can't force it. I don't want something electronic that won't listen to me!  I have children that do that already.

Anyway, I finished my Jalie jeans.  They look pretty darn good, but are just a tad too large.  Wearable though.  I'm going to give them a trip trough the dryer to see if that helps the fit at all, and then note the fit changes I want to make to the next pair.  Go down a size or two depending on the stretch of the denim, take some fabric out of the crotch curve (I never had much junk in the trunk, though two babies later I can fill out bathing suit bottoms finally), interface the waistband, and narrow the lower leg from a flare to a bootcut.  I added 1.5" to the leg length and it was perfect.

I had planned on trying out other stretch jean patterns, but I really don't think I need to.  I may once I get around the 60 or so other items I want to sew.  I don't have anymore stretch denim in my fabric stash, only non-stretch.

My next project will be a Cake Patterns Tiramisu for my MIL.  She liked the one I sewed up for myself so requested one for her and found some fabric at the thrift shop for it.  The one I made for myself went together very quickly, so I don't think it'll take me more than a couple days start to finish.

Happy New Year and may your 2015 be full of happiness and creativity.

Quick gag

Just a quick gag as it's Christmas time and very busy. I saw this in an Archie comic the other day. I still pick up Archie digests at thrift shops and garage sales. The stories are all the same, but the fashions are wonderful.

For real this time

Alright, for real.

So, due to some personal life / health issues, I've taken a leave of absence from work.  This should mean I have time to write a blog now.  The husband gave me an old laptop that was abandoned at work (old, yet still the newest and most powerful laptop I've ever used) so I have a computer now.  My last new computer was 10 years ago when I started university, so this is an exciting thing.

I'm currently working on some selfish sewing projects.  I have no client work to do, and have finished all my Christmas gift sewing.  So, current project is Jalie 2908 Some nice, straight forward stretch jeans.  This is my first Jalie pattern so I hope I chose the sizing correctly.  I love that there are SO MANY sizes in the pattern, so I can make jeans for my daughter as well, but I wish the pages were folded down to letter size.  They would fit in my current pattern filing system that way.

I wanted to include a photo, as I think blog posts and photos go well together, but I can't find my camera since the great craft room sacrifice last week.  (As in, I sacrificed my craft room so my daughter could have her own room when it became clear that both kids sharing a room wasn't going to fly.)  I hope to find it when I get my pegboard up tomorrow and can unpack my tools and notions.

Here we go

Hi! I'm Mandykatt.
Sewing is my first crafting love. But I have many flings with other activities. I don't finish everything I begin, and am willing to try any craft or art form. As well as a few trades.
But I get over confident quickly. I'm sure you all will find it hilarious.
Here's my pincushion I made last night as a parting shot (Cute Octopus scaled down to half size):
